'I Keep Forgetting'

I'm listening to Michael McDonald right now.  The song is "I Keep Forgettin'"  I haven't heard this song in a long while.  I love it.  I would sing it loud if I didn't have elderly neighbors!  LOL

You bought a what?

This morning I am listening to a random mix of music but what caught my ear was Soul/Yo Hey by Soul.  Oddly enough it is on my Spinning Volume 1 CD.  I forgot all about this but it's a great song!

I am happy to say that I bought a an Epiphone guitar and a Line 6 amp! I'm so excited!  I only told my Pop about it.  I made him promise to tell no one else but I don't think he can keep a secret.  : )  tonight when I get home from my job at the gym I start practice with the help of the DVD and possible YouTube.  I love you YouTube because you are going to help me learn how to sew! But that's a different blog topic. Updates coming soon!

Morning Music Mantra

I've been listening to a lot of Miguel lately.  I love his music.  He makes it seem like writing songs can basically be a conversation you are having with yourself, your lover or the world.  I am also taking in a lot of music played on Pandora.  Although I gotta say it's eating up my megabytes on my phone so I have had to lay off the last couple of days.  I am very happy that I have discovered Brazilian music.  It's awesome!  I'm still a fan of love music though.  I'm lover at heart and like to savor the slow melodies as I'm getting ready for work in the morning.  For some reason I prefer not to listen to rap when I am prepping for my day because it seems somewhat jarring that early in the morning.

Lloyd Has My Soundtrack On Lock!

I have listened to Lloyd's first album for the last week.  What a sexy dude!  I guess his music has been my soundtrack while driving to/from work and the gym.  I don't know what it is but I always feel ready to lift some weights after hearing his music.  Maybe I need to release some pent up frustration or something.  At work I have been listening to a lot of Reggae.  Mm-mm I love me some Reggae.  I may not be able to understand all the words but I sometimes feel like getting loose at work.  I feel a bit crazy trying to dance though. Sometimes I don't know who is watching but sometimes I really don't care.

That's Your Business!

I just read the story about Clive Davis and the private information he revealed in his book. I just don't get it.  Why do celebrities feel they the need to "out" themselves as bisexual or gay?  Why does it have to be everyone's business? I think now as a society people are much more tolerant, giving and willing to see others for who they are sans who they identify with sexually.  Go ahead Clive!  Do you!  No explanations needed.  I just wish celebrities and artists alike would stop holding press conferences to announce these things.  Do so, I feel empowers others to continue to demand these type of announcements when they absolutely have no right.

I understand what it is to find out that the one celebrity crush you have is gay.  It's downright sad to know that you will never have a chance with that person (actually you knew all along but it was just another one of those lies you told yourself to prolong the dream)

Anyway, to all you celebrities, singers and artists, who you sleep with should be your business and for private reference versus an information free-for-all for everyone in the world to know.  Your true fans shouldn't care because it's your business!

What Got Me Going This Morning?

The first song to play on my iPhone this morning was "Adorn" by Miguel.  He's a sexy somethin'.  Isn't he? I love his style of music. It is as if it cannot be put in a box which is the way most musicians and singers would want it I imagine.

From there I jammed to Bob Marley, Nas and Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley. While at work I jammed to Brian McKnight and Ne-Yo.  Amazingly I managed to dance in my cubicle to "Rain on Your Parade" by Duffy without anyone seeing me.  Sometimes I wish I was in an office of my own so I could sing and dance without anyone seeing.  But if they see me, so what.  Who cares?  As long as I do my job right?

Saturday, February 2, 2013

Within the last several years I realized that certain songs I listened to while driving or when I was at work evoked the same feelings and memories over and over again. Some of those feelings memories weren't that great but some were.  There was a time when I banished all music by Brian McKnight from my play list because his music reminded me of my ex-husband.  As a matter-of-fact most songs performed by Usher on his early releases reminded me of my ex.  It was a sad and pitiful sight.  I would immediately start crying and it didn't matter where I was.  I realized that I was torturing myself because I felt like I was supposed to mourn the end of our relationship.  WRONG!

In the end and many years later I realized I loved the music made by both Brian McKnight and Usher because they sang songs I could relate to and that I could actually sing without being too terribly off key.  However in order to realize this I truly did have to go through the stages of mourning so I could get all the craziness out of my system.  I should say that now I am a bit more cautious of the music I listen to when I am in a "situation".
